Connie Hayes, RN OCN

Connie Hayes attended Lakeland Community where she earned an associate’s degree, and obtained her RN license in 1993 and her OCN in 1996.  She is a current member of the Oncology Nursing Society.
Connie started her oncology career at Mount Sinai Medical in Cleveland. She worked as a staff nurse at Lake Heath, a float nurse, and a nursing supervisor.  She has also worked at various ambulatory oncology physician offices, mixing and administering  chemotherapy to patients within the office.  Connie started at LHUHSCC in 2007 as a physician partner for Dr. van Heeckeren, and now does nurse triage.
She feels through her own life experiences, she can understand what the patient and family may be going through; acknowledge where they are in the different stages of life; offer support and guidance, as well and empathy as they try to sort through the journey before them.
Born in Pittsburgh PA, raised in Painesville, Connie moved to Perry for 22 years and raised her 3 boys, Dwayne, Ed, and Nick – now all grown and  married with onebeautiful granddaughter, Bayleigh.  Connie moved back to Painesville with her dog, Vader, to be closer to her sister, and is now enjoying condo life.  She enjoys running, hiking, cycling and traveling.
She has achieved what was once thought as unachievable:  Raising boys, Charity Century (100 miles) cycling ride (twice!) and a marathon in Disney with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training.
Never say never — you will not know what you can do if you don’t try.

Fundraising efforts throughout the year help LH/UH Seidman Cancer Center continue to carry out our mission to provide world-class cancer care and oncology services to residents within driving distance of Mentor and Lake County.
